Selecting Ingredients
Distilled water: This is your main ingredient in this hair curl cream. You can't just use any type of water. Avoid using tap water or bottled drinking water because they have impurities that could affect the overall quality of the curl cream. Another thing is that tap water may contain bacteria that could lead to mold and bacterial growth in the final product reducing its shelf life.
Hemp seed oil: This plant oil is an excellent emollient that can improve hair texture, make your hair shine, support hair growth and retain moisture. As part of the hair curl cream formulation, it is going to define curls.
Acrylate copolymer: It is the film-forming agent in your curl cream. It creates a protective layer around the hair shaft that prevent water loss and hair dryness. It can smoothen and detangle hair. This ingredient is generally safe to use in hair care at low concentrations.
Glycerin: This is a common ingredient in both skincare and haircare products. It has hypoallergenic, anti-inflammatory and humectant properties that can hydrate hair strands and preventing hair from drying out. As part of hair curl cream formulation it can improve the look and feel of your curls.
Cetearyl alcohol: Not to be confused at all with cetyl alcohol, this good fatty alcohol is another good emollient and emulsifier that is very import part of hair curl cream formulation. It can soften and smoothen rough hair cuticles while restoring hair moisture.
Hydrolyzed silk protein: This is one of the active ingredients in your hair curl cream formulation. Hydrolyzed silk protein is broken down micro protein that can fortify, repair and revitalize weak hair strands. Having it in your hair strands will ensure your hair stays stronger and healthier.
Panthenol: This is another active ingredient also known by other name as Provitamin B5. It is a water soluble vitamin that can help your hair stay hydrated and avoid water loss which causes dry hair and breakage.

Phenoxyethanol: This ingredient act as a preservative for your hair curl cream formulation. It is generally safe to use at lower concentrations.
Citric acid: This ingredient just act as a pH adjuster of your curl cream to not be too acidic or to alkaline, you just want your curl cream to be the same with hair pH. Around 6 to 6.5 is a good pH range.
Ingredients
5⅔ tablespoons of distilled water
1⅓ teaspoon of hempseed oil
1 teaspoon of acrylate copolymer
⅔ teaspoon of glycerin
¼ teaspoon of cetearyl alcohol
¼ teaspoon of hydrolyzed silk protein
¼ teaspoon of panthenol
⅛ teaspoon of phenoxyethanol
⅛ teaspoon of citric acid
15 drops of peppermint essential oil
After getting your ingredients, prepare utensils such as saucepan, kitchen thermometer, pH strips, heat-resistant beaker, hand-held blender, mixing bowl, measuring spoons and designated well sanitized glass jar.
Instructions
Measure out your ingredients: distilled water, hempseed oil, acrylate copolymer, glycerin, hydrolyzed silk protein, panthenol, phenoxyethanol and citric acid and set them aside.
Boil your distilled water in a heat-resistant beaker on stove top on low heat till it reaches 160 Fahrenheit, always check the temperature with your kitchen thermometer.
Remove from heat add glycerin and cetearyl alcohol to the heated distilled water and stir well.
Add acrylate copolymer and hempseed oil to another beaker and mix them well.
Pour contents of your beakers to mixing bowl and mix with a hand-held blender.
Add hydrolyzed silk protein, panthenol and citric acid and continue blending at low speed till creamy mixture.
Add drop by drop peppermint essential oil and blend well.
Add your phenoxyethanol to the mixture and mix again.
Transfer the creamy mixture to a well-sanitized glass jar and close with a tight lid.
