Hair growth is one of very common and even foremost thing when it comes to hair care. There are many hair products and practices that promise instant hair growth. From infamous hair oils to inversion method all having anecdotal and claims to support them.

Hair growth refers to increase in hair strand length in certain period. In order to observe hair growth then the hair strands should maintain retention that is to say

If you have more hair breakage then it'll be hard to see hair length. So you see, hair retention is even more than hair growth over a long run. Though that's is another whole post on its own. Let's bring our focus back to hair growth. Some of the things that can help you grow your hair are

  • Plant oils like pumpkin seed oil, Moroccan argan oil, etc.

  • Hair supplements like biotin, Vitamin E

  • Prescribed drugs e.g Minoxidil

One of the other remedies that could help with hair growth are essential oils, those few promising researches have been done there are countless claims and anecdotal stories to support their use in hair care general. One of those essential oils is peppermint essential oil.

Peppermint essential oil has more than cooling effect to it, it can has anti-fungal, anti-dandruff and anti-inflammatory properties that can in one way or the other help in making sure your hair grows but with no dandruff, fungi or other drawbacks in your hair care journey and including it in this hair balm will do all that.

Selecting Ingredients

  • Beeswax: As you already know, beeswax is a very good emollient that can coat your hair strands and seal in moisture, preventing water loss which can be very detrimental to dry hair types and high porosity hair. Beeswax contains essential fatty acids that can help to nourish your hair strands too. It makes sense to add it in your hair balm.

  • Kokum butter: This natural butter contains high amounts of essential fatty acids and vitamin E that can help nourish your locks and support hair growth. It can also strengthen hair follicles and soothe dry scalp which in turn can reduce chances of dandruff.

  • Olive oil: Queen of all carrier oils. Your hair balm won't be completed if this oil is not included in this recipe. Olive oil contains omega fatty acids, oleic acid and vitamin E. This oil can help in repairing damaged hair and hair cuticles but also fasten the hair growth process. This oil generally improve both scalp and hair health.

  • Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is filled with omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin A and vitamin E all this nutrients can boost and nourish your hair strands. Jojoba oil can have numerous benefits that can improve hair manageability. If you want your hair strands to grow out then include this carrier oil in this recipe for good strong hair strands.

  • Pumpkin seed oil: This oil can prevent hair loss, hair fall and promote hair growth. It has been used in formulation to help reverse male pattern baldness by blocking DHT which can prevent hair growth. This oil is a must in your hair balm because it helps with hair growth and that's what your hair balm is about.

  • Vitamin E oil: This ingredient can act as a natural preservative for your hair balm to have a longer shelf-life. But also vitamin E oil is good anti-oxidant at fighting free radicals especially the ones caused by UV exposure or pollution that can damage hair strands.

  • Camphor essential oil: Warning! This essential oil has a very strong scent that can cause mild headaches when you smell it it. Camphor can have a cooling effect coz it contains high amount of menthol in it. It can combat hair dryness and support hair growth.

  • Peppermint essential oil: This essential oil has anti-fungal, anti-dandruff and anti-inflammatory properties that can really help to combat various scalp and hair issues such as itching, dryness but support hair growth. Just like camphor peppermint has cooling effect that you'll feel upon applying the hair balm on your scalp.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons of beeswax

  • 2 teaspoons of kokum butter

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  • 2 teaspoons of jojoba oil

  • 2 teaspoons of pumpkin seed oil

  • ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil

  • 15 drops of camphor essential oil

  • 30 drops of peppermint essential oil

Before starting making this recipe collect all your ingredients and tools you will need in the making of this hair balm. Tools like kitchen thermometer, glass measuring cup, saucepan or double boiler, stove top and a designated metal or glass container such as a case or jar with a lead for storing your hair balm after you are done making it. With no further ado now let's jump in!

Instructions

  1. Measure out your ingredients on the kitchen top, I hope that's where you'll be making this recipe, if you have another place that is better good luck then! Gather your grated beeswax, kokum butter, olive oil, jojoba oil, pumpkin seed oil, vitamin E oil, camphor essential oil and peppermint essential oil.

  2. Take your glass measuring cup and add in it, beeswax gratings, kokum butter, olive oil, jojoba oil and pumpkin seed oil.

  3. Now place your glass measuring cup in a saucepan of simmering water on a stove top. Skip the saucepan and use a double boiler instead if you have one.

  4. Turn your stove top on low heat. Wait till all the wax and butter has completely melted. When it reaches at temperature around 160 Fahrenheit is usually the temperature that's right.

  5. Then you can remove your melted mixture from the heat.

  6. Add drop by drop using a dropper ( many essential oil bottles come with one) , vitamin E oil, camphor essential oil and peppermint essential oil. Stir well till the mixture has a uniform blend.

  7. Pour your mixture into well-sanitized small metal containers or glass container and cover with a lid.

  8. Store in a cool dry place and use within 6 months.

How to Use Peppermint Hair Growth Balm

  • After your haircare routine that means shampooing and conditioning you can proceed to do LCO or LOC method, (C for hair Cream, L for leave-in conditioner and O for hair Oil) for your clean hair depending on your hair porosity.

  • Massage a small amount of your hair balm in the palms of your hands and gently apply to hair.

  • Section your hair and apply your hair balm in the scalp and comb through to make sure your hair isn't frizzy.

  • Use a small hair brush (the one that looks like a toothbrush) to smoothen out your edges and 'baby hair' and make sure every strand is in place.
