If you have coarse, dry, relaxed or high porosity hair types then keeping your hair moisturized and hydrated for longer time in a day can be an arm and leg. You might try carrying hair mist around so that you can spritz on your hair every now and then to make sure your hair strands don't dry out.

DIY Hair Lotion
After knowing all the benefits that hair lotions can offer then we can delve deep into creating our own DIY hair lotion that can be used to moisturize hair. Now let's get into crafting!
Selecting Ingredients
Distilled water: When crafting a DIY hair lotion then using tap water is absolutely a no-no! Tap water is more likely to contain mineral impurities from sanitation plants and water pipes. Bacterial growth can be another good reason to avoid tap water. In this formulation crafting avoid even bottled drinking water coz, too contains mineral impurities disguised as electrolytes that can ruin the quality of your hair lotion.
VA copolymer: This ingredient is very important for how hair lotion functions in hair styling. It is a film former which means it can create protective layer that traps moisture inside hair strands avoid escaping and preventing dry hair in general. That's why it's included in your DIY hair lotion.
Hydrolyzed wheat protein: It is made by breaking down macro protein from wheat germ. Hydrolyzed wheat protein is essential at bringing moisture balance by forming a coat on hair shafts, smoothen hair cuticles and improve hair texture thus hair lotion.
Vegetable glycerin: What another good ingredient to use if not glycerin! Glycerin has moisturizing properties that can boost hair hydration and in turn reduce hair dryness and hair breakage. Adding it in your hair lotion formulation can be something not to miss.
PEG-8 dimethicone: This ingredient is both an emulsifier and excellent emollient that is silicone-based. If you want silicone free formulation then opt for emulsifying wax NF. It is lightweight for a more light hair lotion or hair milk. It can enhance more shine on hair strands too.
Vitamin E oil: It is also known as tocopherol acetate. It is a good ingredient with anti-oxidant properties that can fight off free radicals on hair due to sun exposure or pollution. It can also nourish your hair and promote hair growth.
Phenoxyethanol: It is a preservative agent, an ingredient that is used to prevent bacterial growth after making your hair lotion formulation. This ensures your hair lotion has longer shelf life whilst the quality of the product does not decrease.
Xanthan gum: It is a thickening ingredient that can make your hair lotion thicker and less runny. Usually added in water based ingredients while formulating.
Fragrance oil: This is an optional ingredient that can enhance the scent of your hair lotion. Having the option to choose your own fragrance can be a good thing too. You can also choose to increase or reduce drops of fragrance oil or choose to skip it entirely.
Ingredients
6 tablespoons of distilled water
1 teaspoon of VA copolymer
½ teaspoon of hydrolyzed wheat protein
⅓ teaspoon of vegetable glycerin
¼ teaspoon of PEG-8 dimethicone
¼ teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
¼ teaspoon of phenoxyethanol
¼ teaspoon of xanthan gum
10 to 15 drops of fragrance oil

Now you can get all these ingredients online easier than ever before. Then prepare for the tools that you're going to use in your crafting of this DIY hair lotion. Gather tools such as measuring spoons, spatula, hand-held blender, pH tester, mixing bowl and designated well-sanitized pump bottle.
Instructions
Measure out all your ingredients: distilled water, VA copolymer, hydrolyzed wheat protein, vegetable glycerin, PEG-8 Dimethicone, vitamin E oil, phenoxyethanol, xanthan gum except for fragrance oil and set them aside.
First of all start by blending together vegetable glycerin and xanthan gum powder till it gets dissolved.
Add your blend to the mixing bowl then combine with distilled water and VA copolymer. Make sure your mixture is well combined.
Add your hydrolyzed wheat protein and vitamin E oil and blend well with your hand-held blender on low to medium speed. Add phenoxyethanol and continue to blend till you get homogenous mixture.
Now add your favorite fragrance oil drop by drop and mix well again. Skip this part if you want to go fragrance free or simply don't have one.
Transfer the mixture to a clean and disinfected pump bottle.
Stick a cute handmade label. Ta-da!, it is ready for use.
