What Do Hair Butters Do?
Since this post is about hair butters then let's shine a light into this styling product. Before you make your own hair butter, know what hair butter can do.
Deep moisturization: Other hair products such as curl cream or hair gels can help to style and put hair in its place and improve your curl definition. Hair butters usually are made of natural plant butters like shea butter and murumuru butter that contain essential fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins that can penetrate your hair stands and boost hair moisture.
Promotes hair growth: Since many hair butters are made from plant butters that contain many antioxidants that can restore and replenish your damaged hair and stimulate hair follicles to support new hair growth.
Protective styling: For better hair care routines during twisting or braiding, using hair butters can ensure sealing in moisture compared to emulsion formulated hair curl creams or worse enough hair gels and waxes that can cause hair dryness and breakage.
DIY Hair Butter
Making your own hair butters can be fun and fulfilling especially if you like crafting your own DIY haircare or skincare and want to schedule this project in your list. Hair butters are really helpful for those with high porosity hair type since hair grease can weigh down your hair and you can't use them as often. Another thing is that hair butters contain lots of goodies for your hair health than other leave on sealing products like hair greases and pomades.
Selecting Ingredients
Coconut oil: One of the best options for carrier oils in hair care is undeniably coconut oil. Coconut oil contains many of the goodies such as essential fatty acids that can nourish, increase shine boost hair growth and moisturize your hair locks. Making it the core part of your hair butter is definitely a best choice available.
To reap more benefits use unrefined organic coconut oil for that coconut aroma, instead you can use fractionated coconut oil to make your essential oils stand out and avoid the coconut oil making your hair butter go rancid too soon.
Shea butter: Another excellent ingredient with no doubt is shea butter. This natural plant butter from African shea tree nut is widely used in skincare and hair care products due to its ability to deeply moisturize hair shafts and seal in moisture thus adding shea butter to your hair butter is a good choice.
BTMS: This is an emulsifying agent that can help to bind well all the oils and butters ingredients used in the making of your DIY hair butter. It can help with the product texture, spreadability and helping the product wholesomely be well formulated.
Vitamin E oil: Also known as tocopherol acetate, vitamin E oil can help to fight free radicals on hair strands from sun exposure or pollution. Vitamin E oil is also an excellent emollient and preservative too. It can promote hair growth so adding it to your DIY hair butter.
Peppermint essential oil: There are many options that can be used instead like rosemary, lavender, ginger and clove essential oil since they're good for hair health overall.
