Selecting Ingredients
Cocoa butter: It is part of nail cream base. Cocoa butter can not only moisturize and hydrate your hair and skin but also your nails too! Cocoa butter contains essential fatty acids and nutrients that can nourish your nail and cuticles.
Lanolin: Animal fats derived from wool of sheep. Lanolin is good ingredient that is usually used in cosmetic making of lipstick, lotions, moisturizers, soaps and creams. Using it in your recipe will be a good choice because of its occlusive properties that may prevent the nails from becoming too dry and brittle. Substitute it with shea butter for more vegan-friendly recipe.
Beeswax: This ingredient has both moisturizing and sealing properties which can help your nails. Nail cream recipe having lanolin and beeswax means double hydration for your nails.
Pomegranate seed oil: It has numerous nutrients that can benefit the skin, hair and nails. This oil contains vitamin A, C and E that can fortify your nails and make them stronger. These carrier oil is very light and won't overwhelm your nail cuticles.
Argan oil: Among oils that can be beneficial to the nails' growth. This oil is renowned for helping growing hair so it's not a surprise to see it support nail growth coz both hair and nails are composed of keratin.
Vitamin E oil: It can act as a preservative to your nail cream while at the same time fighting oxidative stress cause by free radicals from everyday exposure to various chemicals, dirt and pollution due to various activities carried out by your hands. Vitamin E add protective layer to your nails.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon of cocoa butter
1 tablespoon of lanolin
1 heaping tablespoon of beeswax
1 tablespoon of pomegranate seed oil
1 tablespoon argan oil
¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
Gather all your ingredients and tools to reduce downtime when creating this recipe, preparing beforehand can reduce hassle or worse enough remembering that you forgot to purchase an ingredient in the middle of the process. Have some few measuring spoons, a glass stirrer, glass measuring cup, saucepan and designated glass container for storing your nail cream recipe.
Instructions
Begin by measuring your ingredients: cocoa butter, lanolin and beeswax, simply add them in your glass measuring cup.
Next put this glass measuring cup in a saucepan with few inches of simmering water on a stove top. You can instead just use the double boiler to simplify the whole process. Stir your mixture in the cup occasionally till all your mixture is completely melted. By temperature 160 to 170 Fahrenheit this mixture would have melted.
Then remove the saucepan from the stove top and turn off the heat. While your glass measuring cup is still in hot water, add and stir pomegranate seed oil and argan oil.
Remove the glass measuring cup from the simmering water, wear a glove or use kitchen towel to remove it.
Add vitamin E oil to your mixture and combine well till you achieve a uniform cream.
Your nail cream is ready! Pour your mixture to a small glass container or tin container and store it in a cool and dry place.
