If you have curly or kinky hair then you've considered using hair gels for many reasons though these hair holding products, most of them contain silicones and alcohol that can leave your hair with build up, very dry and matted and over long time use cause hair breakage. Still it can be hard to find hair gels that are formulated to put your hair in place meanwhile not damaging it.

Selecting Ingredients
C 13-15 Alkane: This is a biodegradable ingredient, a very excellent emollient with a gliding feel. It is works well with both plant or silicone oils. It has soft after feel texture. Adding it to your hair gel formulation.
Capric triglyceride: This another ingredient is that is also a good emollient. It is derived from coconut oil. It can lock in moisture without leaving the hair feeling greasy or oily feel. Hair gel formulation contains large percent of capric triglyceride.
Hydrogenated styrene: This ingredient act as a thickener agent for your hair gel formulation. It is non-drying and controlling viscosity.
Moringa oil: It is a good carrier oil for your hair it can smoothen hair cuticles, reduce frizz and improve hair texture. This oil can increase shine to your hair gel formulation.
Laureth-3: This is another thickening agent and also acts as a binder for all the ingredients that make this hair gel formulation.
Vitamin E oil: Vitamin E oil can support hair growth and prevent hair loss, a good emollient which can also reduce free radicals on hair strands.
Fragrance oil: Add your favorite fragrance oil to enhance the scent of a final hair gel formulation. Choose something you'd like and appreciate.
Ingredients
4 tablespoons of C 13-15 Alkane
2⅓ tablespoons of capric triglyceride
1 teaspoon of hydrogenated styrene
½ teaspoon of moringa oil
½ teaspoon of laureth-3
10 drops of vitamin E oil
5-10 drops of fragrance oil (optional)
These ingredients can be bought online easily for your convenience at very affordable price range. Once you get all your ingredients, what you have to do is gather all the tools you'll need in formulating this hair gel. Since it is oil-based then fewer steps are going to be needed. Now prepare a saucepan, measuring spoons, heatproof measuring cups, stove top, kitchen thermometer, measuring scale and a glass stirrer. You can arrange for protective gear such as gloves, head cover and apron too. Now let's get started!
Instructions
Begin making this hair gel by gathering ingredients and measuring them out. Measure out C 13-15 Alkane, capric triglyceride, hydrogenated styrene and moringa oil.
Add them to a heatproof measuring cup and place it in a saucepan filled with few inches of water, creating a water bath.
Turn on the stove top and place the saucepan on it allowing the contents in the measuring cup to be heated. Occasionally stir the mixture while heating it to 185 to 195 Fahrenheit range, checking the right temperature with a thermometer. Make sure that the mixture is well dissolved and homogenous, at this point you'll notice jelly-like mixture.
Now cool the mixture to about 140 Fahrenheit, check with your thermometer before adding laureth-3 and vitamin E oil, drop by drop stirring till well combined in a jelly-like mixture.
Then add your favorite fragrance oil and liquid colorant whenever possible. Skip this step if you don't need the fragrant scents in your end product.
Scoop the jelly-like mixture and put it in well-sanitized glass jars and close with a tight lid. Wait to cool completely before using.
Finally your hair gel is ready for use!
How to Use Your Hair Gel
As part of hairstyling routine make sure your hair is clean and you've moisturized it underneath before using hair gel.
Dab a small amount of hair gel with a small brush and apply on your hair to put your hairstyle in place. Apply more for more defined look.
Apply on your edges and fine baby hair around the front hairline any fly aways.
Spray with an nice hair spray for a shiny lustrous finish.
