Homemade Natural Toothpaste for Teeth Whitening

Oral health is one of important thing in personal care and grooming when you start to talk to people your breath and color of your teeth can either make or break the interaction. Oral health too can determine how your overall health is. So toothbrushing can be very important part of your daily routine for both health and aesthetic reasons but your toothpaste plays a big part in teeth cleaning.
History of Toothpaste
Throughout all major civilization toothpaste have existed to help clean teeth and whole oral cavity. In ancient Egypt, they used pumice, myrrh, eggshells and water to create toothpaste. In mid-19th century the creamy toothpaste that we know of, became commercially available and during 20th century oral care became part and parcel of personal grooming and oral health as advocated by dentists and doctors.
Natural Toothpaste
For some using commercially available toothpaste can be a concern since they contain ingredients that can be deemed to be harmful for your oral health and risk your overall health. Some of ingredients that raise concerns include
Triclosan
Propyl glycol
Sodium laureth sulfate
Sodium fluoride
Many people have health concerns about using toothpaste which contains fluoride. This simple formulation can help you make your own toothpaste that can protect your teeth and gums, whiten teeth without causing damage to the enamel and still leave you with clean fresh breath.
You can make this toothpaste with few ingredients available in your own home. You need few minutes to prepare this toothpaste. Now let's get ready!
Selecting Ingredients
Baking soda: This ingredient is also called sodium bicarbonate. Baking soda has many benefits for the teeth. It can whiten teeth, neutralize and balance your mouth pH. It can also control the acidity caused by plaque on teeth. It can support remineralization of teeth. This is the main ingredient for your natural toothpaste.
Activated charcoal: This ingredient is can act as an abrasive to make your teeth more whiter. This activated charcoal can be bought as capsules or powder form. Activated charcoal can remove the yellowish color of teeth, teeth stains and stubborn plaque. This ingredient should be used in moderation since it can erode the enamel and even reach the dentin layer if used for a long time.
Coconut oil: Coconut oil by itself so far can be used to perform oil pulling which can be beneficial to your oral health. Coconut oil is first of all anti-bacterial, this can help you to kill dangerous bacteria that can cause bad breath, gum diseases or tooth decay. Use MCT Coconut oil to avoid your end product, natural toothpaste to go rancid.
Distilled water: Use distilled water to avoid bacterial growth in your natural toothpaste. Avoid the temptation of using tap water since its more likely contain microbes and impurities that are unneeded to your formulation.
Dead Sea salt: This is another abrasive ingredient that can help to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Another advantage of Dead Sea salt is that it has both anti-inflammatory and healing properties that can help to soothe sore gums. Adding this salt to your toothpaste formulation can help with re-mineralizing and making your teeth more stronger. Use fine grade Dead Sea salt in this preparation of toothpaste.
Himalayan pink salt: This salt has trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium that can strengthen the tooth enamel. Adding it to your natural toothpaste will be a good idea. Again, just find a fine grade Himalayan pink salt for this formulation. This salt has very peculiar taste.
Stevia: As we all know stevia is a natural sweetener that is going to make your natural toothpaste formulation not too salty in taste since we have use so many salts in this formulation already, such as pink Himalayan salt and Dead Sea salt. In order to balance how the toothpaste would taste then adding stevia is important.
Guar gum: This ingredient acts as a thickener to all ingredients if you'd prefer adding a little distilled water to make your toothpaste.
Essential oils: Find essential oils that can benefit your teeth and gums leaving you with fresh breath all day. The likes of spearmint, peppermint, clove and thyme essential oils can have properties that are helpful to your oral health. Just use few drops not more than ten for safety reasons.
Ingredients
⅔ cup of baking soda
1 tablespoon of activated charcoal
½ cup of coconut oil
¼ cup of distilled water
1 teaspoon of dead sea salt
1 teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt
1 teaspoon of stevia
½ teaspoon of guar gum
5 drops of essential oils
Gather your ingredients and tools before making your formulation. Prepare heat-resistant glass mixing bowl, stove top, kitchen thermometer, heatproof measuring cup, blender, wooden spoon, measuring spoons blender and designated jar with a lid. This toothpaste formulation is very simple to create plus it won't be messy.
Instructions
Start by measuring out these dry ingredients; baking soda, activated charcoal, dead sea salt and pink Himalayan salt.
Add these dry ingredients to your glass mixing bowl and mix them together with a wooden spoon till uniform. You can use a blender or food processor to blend in all ingredients.
Meanwhile create a water bath of saucepan with few inches of water with a heatproof measuring cup in it. Add distilled water, stevia and guar gum in your heatproof measuring cups.
Turn on the heat and monitor the temperature with a kitchen thermometer while stirring constantly till the mixture in the measuring cup thickens.
Add the mixture to the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl and blend uniformly.
Then add your coconut oil to the mixture in the bowl and mix it till you get a soft paste, adjust the amount of coconut oil to get right consistency.
Next add your essential oils drop by drop for more benefits. Blend well.
Scoop your paste and put it in your well-sanitized glass jar and close with a lid tightly.
Alternatively,
Blend all the dry ingredients like baking soda, activated charcoal, pink Himalayan salt, dead sea salt all together in a blender or food processor.
Add your essential oils and blend well.
Now transfer this powder blend into a glass jar and close it with a lid tightly.
Whenever you want to use the toothpaste make a little paste by adding coconut oil.


How to Brush Your Teeth for Whiter Look
Add your natural toothpaste on your toothbrush.
Start by brushing your upper and lower teeth, one tooth at a time.
Now tilt your toothbrush at 45° and continue to brush your teeth near the gum line and make sure to remove any food leftovers and plaque, going back and forth with gentle strokes.
Address the inner part of your teeth with your toothbrush tilted at 45°, making sure that you brush all the teeth, spaces in betweens and top part of molars and pre-molars.
Brush your tongue in the middle and side part.
After brushing for two minutes spit all the contents.
Gargle with clean and safe water then spit till your mouth is clean.
Wash your toothbrush and store it in a safe place, this should not be your bathroom cabinet.
