How to Make Earthy-scented Perfume Oil
Probably you have heard of Celebrity signature scent from famous celebs like Old Hollywood Glam actress like Elizabeth Taylor to pop singer Ariana Grande, Have you ever thought of creating your own signature scent too? Let's embark on making earthy-scented perfume oil.
DIY SKINCARE
For a long time I've been thinking about creating a perfume oil recipe for you๐! So today I wanted to put the recipe down into writing in this post. First of all to make a good perfume oil is good to educate ourselves on perfume notes.
In perfume pyramid, they are divided into three tiers. Base notes, middle notes and top notes. Basically what we mean by notes is actually an individual scent, absolutes, essential oils or fragrance oils used in perfume blending.
In this recipe we gonna simply use essential oils, some of them you might be having if you like making DIY skincare products.
Top notes: These are simply fragrances, scent, absolutes, extracts or essential oils that have high evaporation rate and make between 5 to 20% of the perfume. This is the first thing your nose sense when hit by perfume spritz. It is usually short-lived and dissipate within 5 to 20 minutes. Popular notes include ylang ylang, sweet orange, neroli, lemon or spearmint.
Middle notes: Also known as heart motes. They can make a large percent of the perfume blend from 60 to 80%. These notes close the gap between top notes and base notes. Good middle notes is what make a nice-scented perfume. These notes can last up to an hour. Some of middle notes you'll probably love are blue chamomile, sage, clove bud, sweet fennel and balsam.
Base notes: These are usually viscous and thicker absolutes, many sellers online usually dilute them before selling them. Some have a scent so strong you can get a mild headache. I think diluted ones are a better option for small batches made at home. But also they are more affordable than the pure absolutes from the sources. They take up note more than 20%.
In the art of perfume blending, there is no a right and wrong scent, with trial and error and practice you can create scent that you'll come to appreciate and love. Use your natural talents to smell various scents till you recognize the ones that are best for you. You can use a fragrance wheel to find what complements you.
SELECTING INGREDIENTS
Fractionated coconut oil: It is also called coconut MCT oil. It is a good perfume diluent because of its bland odor and stability more than the regular coconut oil and less prone to oxidation.
Vegetable Glycerin: Glycerin is a good moisturizing agent. but in this case we are going to use it as a scent preservative. In order to preserve our perfume oil's signature scent for a long time, it is good to add glycerin to our recipe.
Patchouli essential oil: The musky, earthy aroma of patchouli can be a good choice for masking the body odor. Even after few hours still its scent lingers, a good choice for our perfume oil.
Carrot seed essential oil: This is also a good choice for this recipe because of its tonic and antiseptic properties. It can cause a photo sensitivity and may not be pregnant safe.
Vetiver essential oil: It has an earthy dry grass scent. It is like lemongrass but more earthy notes and woody notes good for this recipe. It can also act as a stimulant and anti-oxidant.
Cocoa absolute: You have to know that an absolute means that the concentrated form of a plant extract, usually stringer that its oils or hydrosol end products after expeller pressing and processing. Cocoa absolute therefore is very concentrated form of its cocoa butter. It has a very sweet scent of fine dark chocolate that you'll love.
Jojoba oil: It is has a neutral odor making it a good option to use when blending essential oils. A perfume blend should not be more than 10% in your chosen carrier. in this matter, its fractionated coconut oil we are using. Down below I have listed all the steps to be followed to make your perfume oil.
