How to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

When you wake up from sleep, the first you go to the bathroom and you look yourself in the mirror. The first thing to notice on your face is eye bags sitting on your face. It can be frustrating to start your day like that, right? Now before you get to delve in this eye cream recipe, there are few tips and tricks that you can use to reduce appearance of eye bags.

  • Applying chilled slices of cucumbers for 10 to 20 minutes before going to sleep.

  • Wrapping an ice pack around a cheese cloth and gently rubbing it around the eyes for 10 minutes before sleeping.

  • Wearing satin or silk eye masks during sleep.

  • Avoiding UV pollution, that is exposing yourself to lights from phones, TVs and other smart devices before sleep.

  • Applying over-the-counter (OTC) hemorrhoid cream around the eyes before sleeping.

Selecting Ingredients

  • Vegetable glycerin: It is a clear odorless syrup also known as glycerol. Glycerin is a very important ingredient in skincare. Glycerin can help to hydrate and soften skin around the eyes. Well hydrated skin is unlikely to get puffy because is deeply moisturized. It binds well on the skin barrier creating a protective layer.

  • Distilled water: When creating DIY skincare, hygiene should be optimum. One of the things to take care of is using distilled water which is well-sanitized. Using distilled water can reduce chances of microbial growth in your eye cream recipes. Avoid using tap water or bottled water because it contains impurities or microbiomes.

  • Pomegranate seed oil: It is lightweight carrier oil that has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. It will make your eye cream recipe non-greasy which ensures easy application and not have heaviness around the eyes before you go to sleep.

  • Prickly pear seed oil: It filled with vitamins, anti-oxidants and other essential fatty acids. It can be used for skin hydration and rejuvenation. This oil when used with pomegranate seed oil that you can reap benefits that can help to reduce puffiness around the eyes.

  • Shea butter: This ingredient act as your cream base. It is filled with essential fatty acids and polyphenols than can nourish your skin, protect the skin barrier and moisturize your skin. It has a nutty aroma that you'd appreciate. This natural butter can help your eye cream.

  • Liquid lecithin: It is derived from the soybeans and brown in color. It acts as an emulsifier and increase shelf-life of the eye cream. Find a non-GMO(Genetically Modified Organism) soy-based lecithin wherever possible and avoid the ones derived from animal by-products. This ensures the product is natural and safe.

  • Emulsifying wax NF: It is made from the fatty acids of plant fats. A better option will be emulsifying wax NF for this eye cream. This ingredients helps to bind water and water-phase ingredients with oil and oil-phase ingredients in your eye cream recipe to crate this moisturizing portion.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin

  • 1 tablespoon of distilled water

  • ½ teaspoon of pomegranate seed oil

  • ½ teaspoon of prickly pear seed oil

  • 1 teaspoon of shea butter

  • 1 teaspoon of liquid lecithin

  • ½ teaspoon of emulsifying wax NF

Now here we go! Collect your ingredients and tools before beginning to make your fruity seed oil-infused eye cream recipe. Prepare your tools like two glass measuring cups, kitchen thermometer, saucepan or double boiler, small glass mixing bowl and small sanitized container.

Instructions

  1. Begin by measuring out your distilled water and vegetable glycerin and pour into a glass measuring cup and place it in a saucepan on stove top with simmering water or you can use double boiler.

  2. Second step, measure out your pomegranate seed oil, prickly pear seed oil, shea butter, liquid lecithin and emulsifying wax NF and add them to another measuring cup and place it in another saucepan containing few inches of simmering water. Get another double boiler or you might just have one so, saucepan hot water bath will do.

  3. Wait till all mixtures reach a temperature of 160-170 Fahrenheit, at this point the butter and waxes would have melted and well combined. Remove both measuring cups from the saucepans of simmering water.

  4. Take out your glass measuring cup containing oil/wax mixture and pour it to your glass mixing bowl and start mixing with the hand-held blender, start at low speed and slowly increase to medium speed.

  5. Next, carefully take out your other measuring cup containing distilled water and vegetable glycerin mixture and pour it into the mixing bowl and continue to blend for other five minutes.

  6. Then your eye cream should be ready at this point, pour your eye cream in a sanitized container and allow it to cool. Make sure your container is well-sanitized to avoid microbial growth, using a product with microbes may spell disaster when used around the eyes.

  7. Store in the refrigerator and use it within 14 days.
