If you're are a natural skincare enthusiast and also indulge in self care routines you believe in self-love, then making scented candles can be your DIY side project. You can use remaining waxes from previous skincare recipes you just made instead of letting this extra ingredients remain there, just collecting dust. It can also be fun to make candles at the end of the day and lit them up before taking a bath and turn a relaxing music on t bring that good mood around you.

Nowadays scented candles have gained more popularity with self care movement and for the right reasons. Scented candles can uplift your mood, help you calm down and relax. You can lit your candles and play soothing music while in the bathtub and turn little things into a luxury by just adding candles! Adding rose fragrance oil can be another way of making your candles stand out, rose scent is subtle and not overwhelming to your moods.

In the past before electricity era, candles were used to lit up houses and for sometime they became obsolete but in this age again we've find something better that we could use candles for. But also you could make candles then package them as presents, they make a very good gift idea! They could also be used in many ceremonies, parties such as birthdays and the list goes on.

Because these candles are not going to be on your skin there's no need to be very conservative about it and you could use any type of waxes

  • Beeswax pellets

  • Soy wax flakes

  • Paraffin wax pellets

  • Tallow

Though to create a vegan-friendly, in this simple beginner recipe let's use soy wax flakes to create these beautiful scented candles for self-care and our bathtub routines. I find these scented candles easy to make especially if you are a beginner. With no further ado let's jump in and make your rose scented candles.

Selecting Ingredients

  • Wax: this is our main and sole ingredient for this recipe. Very simple, right? The type of wax can affect the quality of the candles you make. I prefer a more natural approach so beeswax can be a good option. If you like both natural and vegan-friendly recipe then soy wax is the way to go! Get your soy wax in form of flakes and beeswax in form of pellets and not blocks for easy of use. Mind you temperature when melting, many waxes won't go above 80 Celsius.

  • Rose fragrance oils: You have to know that fragrance oils are different from essential oils, if you want your candles to produce that nice scent when you burn them, then go for fragrance oils. This scented candle recipe uses rose fragrance oil. Rose scent is very subtle and fit the self care aesthetic vibes.

  • Wick: Is made of fibers usually looks like a long rope. Find a right wick for right candle size. Wick size is crucial for an evenly burning, long-lasting candle.

Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons of soy wax

  • 20 drops of rose fragrance oil

  • wicks with metal base

  • pegs or pencil will do

  • candle glasses or any small open glass jar or metal container

In this recipe you'll also need tools like double boiler or saucepan, kitchen thermometer and glass measuring cup. Remember to gather all your ingredients and tools to remove any need to stop in the middle of the making process. You can also get an apron and gloves so that you can avoid contacting with hot wax melt. This recipe is fun and so, so easy, you'll enjoy it at the end of the day!

Instructions

  1. Start your candle making process by measuring out your soy wax flakes and add them in the glass measuring cup or double boiler.

  2. Place your measuring cup with soy wax flakes inside a saucepan with few inches of water if you lack a double boiler. Turn on the stove top and put your double boiler or saucepan with glass measuring cup in.

  3. Let you wax melt, stir between intervals with a wooden spoon or spatula. When the wax reaches 160 to 170 Fahrenheit temperature range then it would've melted. This melting process won't exceed 15 minutes.

  4. Next prepare your candle glasses. Carefully attach your wick metal discs to the base of your candle glasses. On the other end of the wick tie it to a pencil and let the pencil rest horizontally on top of the candle glass do the same to other candle glasses. Make sure your wicks are straight and too loose or too tight.

  5. Add your rose fragrance oils to the melted wax and stir till uniformly mixed. Add more if you think is going to be good choice or if you want it to be more perfumed.

  6. Now your wax is already melted just pour it into the candle glasses, tap your candle glasses to remove any bubbles and let it to cool slowly.

    TIP: Place your candle glasses in a hot water bath to avoid rapid cooling that can cause cavities in the middle of your candles.

  7. Let your wax cure for 24 to 48 hours then you can use them as part of bathing routine or as part of meditating or something or a certain event you planned for.

Tips and Tricks for Making Scented Candles

  • If you see a cavity in the middle of your candle, don't worry simply re-melt it with hairdryer.

  • Maintain consistent temperature when pouring your melted wax in your candle glasses, using a water bath to heat up your candle glasses whilst pouring is better.

  • Don't use microwave to heat your wax for this recipe.

  • Choose the right wick for the right size of your candle.
