Hair balm can help when styling hair, before doing braids or cornrows to reduce stress that can lead to hair breakage. You can apply it when you section your hair so that you can easily comb through. It can also de-frizz your hair.

Hair Balms for Hair Styling

Hair balms can be more better than other hair styling products such as hair wax or hair gel that can dry your hair, product build up and cause hair damage. Hair balms can be gentle to edges and can also reduce chances of traction alopecia which is mainly cause by tight hairstyles like tight cornrows or braids.

Many women who do tight hair styling over a long period of time they can lead to receding hair line or traction alopecia. Traction alopecia can be treated and reversed but should be avoided by having good hair care.

Having to make your hair balms that you can craft to suit your needs and avoid dangerous ingredients and preservatives that can cause scalp and hair issues. This hair balm contains essential oils and plant oils that can moisturize your locks.

Selecting Ingredients

  • Beeswax: It is yellowish in color wax derived from a honeycomb. It makes your hair balm base. This beeswax has many benefits that can moisturize and sealing in moisture that can hydrate your locks.

  • Mango butter: Mango butter is not only good at moisturizing skin but also hair. It can condition, soften and smoothen out hair cuticles as this is one of the things that we need in our hair balm. Dry, brittle and damaged hair will benefit the most from mango butter ability to nourish and hydrate hair strands.

  • Moringa oil: This exotic plant oil can more to your hair. It can soothe your scalp and create a good environment for regrowth of hair follicles. Adding this oil to your hair balm can help you to prevent thinning hair, hair loss and hair breakage at the edges. Moringa oil is very good addition to your hair balm.

  • Hemp seed oil: Hemp seed oil is filled with essential fatty acids, vitamin A and vitamin E all this anti-oxidants can thicken your thin hair strands around the edges. Hemp seed oil can have many benefits that can improve hair manageability. If you want your hair styling to not get your hair break, then include this carrier oil in this recipe for good cornrows and braiding.

  • Wheatgerm oil: It has high content of vitamin E that can be very beneficial for your edges and hair. This oil is a little bit heavier than other carrier oils. Wheatgerm oil can revitalize, repair hair damage from heat and chemical treatments and reduce hair breakage while braiding. But also wheatgerm oil can improve the scalp health.

  • Vitamin E oil: This ingredient can act as a natural preservative for your hair balm to have a longer shelf-life. But also vitamin E oil is good anti-oxidant at fighting free radicals especially the ones caused by UV sunrays exposure or pollution and fall on your hair.

  • Sweet orange essential oil: This essential oil can make your hair have sweet, fresh citrus scent before and after styling your hair. Section your hair and applying this hair balm in em lines then combing through can make your hair easy to twist or braid and the hair won't be frizzy as such.

  • Rosemary essential oil: This is one of best essential oils for hair growth. Adding this essential oil to your hair balm can help hair regrowth and stimulate hair follicles.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons of beeswax

  • 2 teaspoons of mango butter

  • 1 tablespoon of moringa oil

  • 2 teaspoons of hemp seed oil

  • 2 teaspoons of wheatgerm oil

  • ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil

  • 30 drops of sweet orange essential oil

  • 10 drops of rosemary essential oil

Collect all your ingredients and tools you will need in the making of this hair balm. Tools like kitchen thermometer, glass measuring cup, saucepan, stove top and a designated metal or glass jars for storing your hair balm after you are done making it. Join me and let's make this hair balm!

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients on the kitchen top, I hope that's where you'll be making this recipe or find any other good place you can find. Gather your beeswax gratings, mango butter, hemp seed oil, moringa oil, wheatgerm oil, vitamin E oil, sweet orange essential oil and rosemary essential oil.

  2. Next, take your glass measuring cup and add in it, beeswax, mango butter, moringa oil, hemp seed oil and wheatgerm oil.

  3. Now place your glass measuring cup in a saucepan of simmering water on a stove top. Use a double boiler instead.

  4. Your stove top should be on low heat. Wait till all the wax and butter has completely melted. When it reaches at temperature around 160 Fahrenheit is usually the right temperature.

  5. Then you can remove your melted mixture from the heat.

  6. Add drop by drop using a dropper ( many essential oil bottles come with one) , vitamin E oil, sweet orange essential oil and rosemary essential oil. Stir well till the mixture has a well blend.

  7. Pour your mixture into well-sanitized small metal or glass containers or glass container and cover with a lid.

  8. Store in a cool dry place.

How to Use Hair Balm

  • After your haircare routine that means shampooing and conditioning you can proceed to do LCO or LOC method, (C for hair Cream, L for leave-in conditioner and O for hair Oil) for your clean hair depending on your hair porosity.

  • Section your hair and apply your hair balm in lines then comb through the sections, now twist or braid your hair.

  • Massage a small amount of your hair balm in the palms of your hands and gently apply to your braided or twisted hair.

  • Use a small hair brush (the one that looks like a toothbrush) to smoothen out your edges and 'baby hair' and make sure every strand is in place.
