Lip oils are part of lip care formulation that can help your lips functionally or aesthetically in one way or the other. In fact there have become one of trendy products but for a very good reason. Their simplicity and oh! they deliver!, the promise of having beautiful lips without feeling too overwhelmed for some who might shy away from lipsticks or want to skip them for a day or two or wear them on top of your regular lipstick.

What are Lip Oils?

So before we continue to make this lip oil, one should ask what lip oils are, right? Well, lip oils are lip care preparation that are applied on clean lips in order to moisturize and hydrate lips. In fact they're are a cross link between lip glosses and lip balms. If lip gloss and lip balm decided to have a baby then it will be lip oil. These are the following benefits to using lip oils

  • Give a glossy finish to your lips

  • Protect your lips from sun damage

This recipe will use luxurious oils with fruity aroma to create a unique recipe of lip oil. These oils used here are nourishing, moisturizing filled with anti-oxidants that might help your lips. Another thing is that since it does not use petro-chemicals and other cheap ingredients then the lip oil won't be sticky and you could glide your lips after applying it.

Selecting Ingredients

  • Grapeseed oil: You have to know that this oil contains high amounts of vitamin A and E that can help to rejuvenate lip skin layer and fight off free radicals from UV sunrays exposure. This carrier oil in lip oil won't make your lips feel heavy since its lightweight in nature.

  • Rosehip oil: Yet another luxurious oil filled with high amounts of vitamin E. This oil can help to nourish lips and make them softer. Another benefits from rosehip seed oil is it can help cell turnover on your lips and over moisturize lips as far as lip oil is concerned.

  • Passion fruit seed oil: This oil is pressed from seeds of passion fruit. The oil is rich in fatty acids and anti-oxidants that can help to repair, hydrate, protect and moisturize your lips leaving them feeling soft and supple. It is a good addition to your lip oil recipe.

  • Peach kernel oil: This carrier oil has many anti-oxidants and fatty acids such as omega-3, 6 and 9 that have anti-aging properties which is exactly needed to make your lips well-nourished and smooth with no sticky feel at the end of the day.

  • Pomegranate seed oil: In this oil recipe, it won't be complete if you skip pomegranate seed oil. It is a fruity lightweight carrier oil. It is packed with powerful anti-oxidants that can help to make your lips smoother, soothe and calm and irritation or inflammation. It can also lighten dark lips.

  • Cocoa absolute: If you want that cocoa aroma then making your lip oil stand out by just adding few drops of cocoa absolute will do a trick. An accessory to your lip oil, can make it very unique with every lip oil application.

  • Mica: This natural and mineral-based ingredient that is added to any DIY crafts projects in order to give it a shimmer, shine and luster. This lip oil might just need a pinch of mica in order to get those glossy shimmery lips. You can choose any color of mica that can accentuate your lips whether it be gold, silver or rose, the choice is in your hands.

  • Vitamin E oil: It's quite a very nice emollient that can add another protective layer to your lip oil and can make your lips supple and well-moisturized, keeping chapped lips at bay. Vitamin E oil can also act as a preservative to your lip oil and make sure that this lip oil does not get ruined too soon.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of grapeseed oil

  • 1 tablespoon of rosehip oil

  • 1 tablespoon of passion fruit seed oil

  • 1 tablespoon of peach kernel oil

  • 1 tablespoon of pomegranate seed oil

  • 5 drops of cocoa absolute

  • ½ teaspoon of mica powder

  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil

Always feel free to experiment with adding or removing mica powder in your recipes. Find different shades of color for mica and try them on your lips to see which color suits you. Substitute cocoa absolute with peppermint essential oil to feel the cooling sensation on your lips. Find citrus essential oils ranging from sweet orange, lemon to grapefruit and settle for what's best for your taste. Be careful though as not all essential oils are good for very sensitive lip skin.

Instructions

  1. First start by measuring your ingredients: grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, passion fruit seed oil, peach kernel oil and pomegranate seed oil. Add them in a glass measuring cup.

  2. Swirl them together with the spoon till all oils are well-mixed. These oils have a nice fruity aroma that make fit for your lip oil.

  3. Next step is to add vitamin E oil into the mixture and stir well till completely mixed.

  4. Then add your cocoa absolute, drop by drop whilst stirring the mixture uniformly.

  5. Add mica powder with color of your own choosing, it can be green, rose gold, pink or silver. Again mix well till all contents have uniform color. This is optional step.

  6. Lastly, pour your mixture in a lip oil container of your choice. Glass containers are a good choice, get cute small containers that you can find online. Lip gloss container with the applicator can do the same job.

  7. Store it and use any time you'd like.

How to Use Lip Oil

  • Start by exfoliating your lips to get rid of flakes, dry patches and chapped lips. Use a soft clean toothbrush to apply and exfoliate with a lip scrub.

  • Rub your lips gently with a piece of tissue to reveal soft lips.

  • Apply lipstick first followed by luxurious lip oil.

  • Skip step three, apply your lip oil directly to your lips.

  • Apply regularly to keep your lips nourished throughout the day.
