DIY SKINCARE

Far different from lip balms are lip glosses. Lip balms are are solid, waxy and have a matte finish when applied to the lips. Lip glosses on the other hand, are liquid, silkier and glossier. Lip glosses are easier to apply by gliding your lip together to end up with shiny lips. When making lip glosses you can add a tint by using natural powders to it.

Selecting Ingredients
Grapeseed oil: This is one of my favorite carrier oil. It is light in color and lightweight in nature. You can reap a lot of benefits from using it in this recipe. It is nourishing and moisturizing for the skin and lips too. But it also make lips shinier.
Sweet almond oil: It contains omega fatty acids and vitamin E oil. This carrier oil can help to exfoliate dry patches of dead skin cells on your lips creating a space for rejuvenation and cell renewal on your lips. Almond oil ensures your lips are softer because it can deeply hydrate and moisturize your lips.
Coconut oil: Lips are most exposed part of the face and they have thin skin layer than other parts of the face. Lips are are exposed to cold, dry winds and sun rays. Then coconut oil comes to play. It can help to reduce sun damage on lips. When using coconut oil find the fractionated one so that its aroma doesn't affect the final product.
Mango butter: It is a semi-solid yellow butter with mango fruity aroma. This butter has essential fatty acids and polyphenols that can nourish your lips. Mango butter can deeply moisturize and hydrate your lips by sealing in moisture to not escape lips.
Beeswax: This wax has not on occlusive properties but also it can lock in moisture and prevent dryness. Another thing is that beeswax can form a protective coat against UV exposure. If you want a vegan-friendly version feel free to substitute this ingredient with soy wax or candelilla wax.
Beetroot powder: Acts as a natural colorant in this recipe. It is an optional ingredient though your decision to use or not use it can make or break the desired end results that you may want. Beetroot powder has exfoliating properties that can be helpful if you want plumper lips. Add more of the powder for more red rich tones or reduce your powder in the lip gloss base for lighter tones.
Cayenne pepper oil: Don't worry about it! Its spicy and hot and that's what we need for this lip gloss. If you want more volume in your lips then adding this oil will definitely help to get those juicy lush lips.
Vitamin E oil: It is known as tocopherol. It is not only act as a preservative but has numerous benefits such as fighting oxidative stress since vitamin E oil is an anti-oxidant. Vitamin E oil can soften and plump the lips. It can make the overall lip gloss shelf-life is increased.
Ingredients
2 tablespoon of grapeseed oil
1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil
1 tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil
1½ teaspoon of mango butter
1½ heaping teaspoon of beeswax
1 teaspoon of beetroot powder
10 drops of cayenne pepper oil
1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
If you want darker shades of red, then consider adding more beetroot powder. You can add or reduce amount of beetroot powder to match your skin tone if that's the case. Making tinted lip gloss with more beetroot powder can produce deeper shades that can accentuate darker skin tones while adding less beetroot powder can create lightly tinted lip gloss to complement lighter skin tones. But also beetroot powder has exfoliating properties that can make for softer, kissable lips.
Be very careful when handling and using Cayenne pepper oil to not come close around eye area. Wash your hands upon done using it. If it gets into the eye wash thoroughly with lots of clean and safe water. If irritation persists see an eye doctor.
Instructions
Measure out your ingredients: grapeseed oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, mango butter and beeswax. Add them in a glass measuring cup.
Then place your saucepan with few inches of water and submerge your measuring cup into the saucepan. Use a double boiler instead if you have one.
Place your saucepan on stove top and turn on the heat. Wait till your beeswax is fully melted. When your mixture reaches 160 to 170 Fahrenheit at this point it'll be ready!
Now remove your mixture from heat. Turn off the stove.
Next step is to add vitamin E oil into the mixture and stir well till completely mixed.
Add your cayenne pepper oil to your mixture and swirl till uniform.
This is an optional step but that's what makes your tinted lip gloss stand out from the clear lip gloss. Add your beetroot powder depending om the shade you like, more for a deeper and richer color and vice versa.
Lastly, pour your mixture in a lip gloss container of your choice. Glass containers are a good choice for perfectly displaying your recipe, get cute small containers that you can find online.
